Fudge at London Fashion Week SS13

At this year’s London Fashion Week Fudge styled the hair at a number of shows including Philip Treacy and Meadham Kirchhoff.

PHILIP TREACY

After a 13-year absence from London Fashion Week Philip Treacy is back and Fudge was there to witness the action. “Ladies and gentlemen, the greatest milliner in the world: Philip Treacy,” announced Lady Gaga as she opened the show wearing the late Isabella Blow’s fuchsia shroud. Notable models present were Alek Wek, Joan Smalls and Jourdan Dunn.

“It (the show) was based on Africa getting rich,” explains Treacy. “A future Africa, and they just happen to be wearing Michael Jackson’s clothes. Jackson was exceptional – his talent, the dancing, the image, and I was touched to be able to work with his clothes. They were at my studio for a month before the show, and they were really freaking me out; I’d lift up a box and there would be a sparkly glove.” In addition to paying tribute to the late King of Pop, Treacy also dedicated the collection to Isabella Blow and Alexander McQueen. The glamorous show ended with a gospel choir performing to the audience.

“The hair is styled to create unique and individual shapes to suit each hat and the model wearing them,” says Fudge session stylist Snowden Hill. “Our critical aim was to celebrate the beautiful silhouettes of the models’ head shapes while creating beautiful, sleek, fluid styles that worked as an extension of the hat while keeping the intricate designs as the central showpiece.”

There are just four simple steps to recreate the signature bob seen at the show:

1. Use Fudge Gloss from the roots to the ends of the hair and blow-dry straight (use straighteners for particularly curly/frizzy hair)
2. Brush Fudge Skyscraper hairspray through the hair applying a low heat with your hairdryer to sculpt the hair close and smooth to the head. Concentrate on smoothing the hair in a backwards sweep from the hairline to the crown.
3. Separate the hair from the crown of the head into three sections, rolling each section inwards and up towards the nape of the neck. Secure with pins.
4. Finish your style with a fine mist of Fudge Head Shine to give the hair a glossy, sleek finish.


MEADHAM KIRCHHOFF

The paintings of Botticelli and figures cherubs provided the inspiration for Meadham Kirchhoff’s Spring 2013 show. “We wanted to create a really soft, feminine and ethereal look” says James Pecis,for Fudge. “It celebrated the natural beauty of the models and worked well with the collection.” All the models had an updo featuring a braided ring and soft curly ringlets piled high on the head. The hair was accessorised with jewels, bows, and hair clips by Lilien Czech. “We wanted the girls to look pretty and pure, like figures in Renaissance paintings” Pecis continues. “Hair and make-up is an important element of the show for Meadham Kirchhoff and we normally start chatting about the look one or two months in advance. This is my eighth season working with Edward and Benjamin. After several shows together the creative process for the hair has become a really strong collaboration.” The eccentric fashion was all about twisted fairy fantasies, reminiscent of Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette with ribbons, candy colours and cavalier hats.

Recreate the 18th Century Parisian style look at home:

1. Prep the hair with Fudge Dry Shampoo to remove any grease and make it easy to style.
2. Using a tail comb, separate the front section of hair just behind the ears. Tie the rest of your hair out of the way to make it easier to braid.
3. Use the tail comb to create an off centre zigzag parting. Start braiding the hair in a tight french plait down the right hand side of your head. Once you get to the nape of the neck, plait in the normal way and secure with a snag free plastic hair band.
4. Repeat braiding the plait on the left hand side.
5. Take the plait from the right and wrap back around the nape of the neck and tuck and pin into the left plait. Repeat process on the left side.
6. Next, take sections of the loose hair and spray with Fudge Matte Head Gas. Use a thin curling wand to create tight ringlets.
7. Pin the curls high and forward on your head with curling pins. Gently ease the curls with your fingers to create more height, and a wispy softness to the style.
8. Take a length of thin elastic and an upholstery needle, weave through the curls to secure the style in place – you may need a friend to help you do this. If an extra pair of hands is not available you can secure the style in place with hair grips.
9. Finish with a good mist of Fudge’s Skyscraper hairspray to hold the style in place
